HaflongHaflong is a spectacular hill station of Assam, which is located at an altitude of 680 m above the sea level. It serves as the district headquarters of North Cachar Hills, one of the 23 districts of Assam. It is located at a distance of 85 km to the north of Silchar and 345 km from Guwahati. Haflong is a land of nature manifested in its true spirit. It has greenery all around, with varieties of flowers and fruits. The town looks awesome with its azure blue hills, unique orchids such and bright green rivers. The hills of Haflong are known for more than 2 lakh varieties of flowers found therein. The hill station provides immense scope for gliding, para gliding and trekking. Several ethnic groups, including Dimasas, Hmars, Nagas, Karbis, Khelmas and Mizos, belonging to different religions inhabit the place, giving it a beauty of diversity.

Haflong has a pleasant weather almost throughout the year. The average mean maximum temperature of the place varies from 24°C to 30°C, whereas the mean minimum temperature lies between 10°C and 14°C. Rainfall starts from the month of May and extends till the end of September; but it is not distributed evenly throughout the place. The ideal time to visit Haflong is from October to April, which is also the winter season for the place. The weather at this time is cool and pleasant. Though the temperature lowers down considerable towards the end of December and the beginning of January, Haflong still looks awesome in the misty backdrop.

Tourist Attractions in & Around Haflong

Haflong Lake
The breathtaking lake of the Haflong is located at the heart of the hill station. It is one of the largest natural water bodies of Assam. The lake offers a variety of leisure activities, like boating. Jatinga village, another famous tourist spot, is hardly 9 km from this lake.

Jatinga
Jatinga, famous for the mysterious migratory birds, is located hardly 20 km to the south of Haflong and thus, can be covered as a short excursion from the place. Jatinga is covered with Blue Vandas Orchids. It is well known for being the mysterious place where hundreds of migratory birds commit suicide every year, between August and November. One can also see the beautiful sunrise from the Hempeopet peak in Jatinga.

Maibong
Maibong was the ancient capital of the Dimasa Kachari Kingdom, which existed from mid-sixteenth to mid-eighteenth century. The place is located at a distance of about 45 km from Haflong and retains the ruins of the kingdom even today. It also boasts of 12th century monolithic Ramchandi Temple of Kachari Kings. The Mahur River also flows by Maibong, which offers a great tourist attraction.

How to Reach
Haflong has a well-developed infrastructure, which makes the hill station accessible from across the globe. The town has a wide network of road services, which conveniently connect different parts both within and outside the country.

By Air
The nearest airport to Haflong is the airport of Barapani, Shillong (Meghalaya), which is located at a distance of 252 km. You can also reach the place via Guwahati Airport, which is at a distance of 345 km from Haflong.

By Rail
Lower Haflong has a railway station, which is at a very close distance of 3 km from the main town. There are many trains going to and from Haflong, which provide slow moving scenic ride through the hill station. Lunding Juction Railway station is another railhead close to Haflong.

By Road
Haflong is well connected by road to the commercial city of Assam, Guwahati. There are both government and private buses operating at regular intervals, connecting the hill station to the main parts of Assam.
